As part of the continuting commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the 1963 Birmingham Civil Rights Movement, the Metro Birmingham Branch NAACP will host its Economic Empowerment and Advancement Summit on Saturday, February 23, 2013.
The event takes place at the Student Union Hall’s upper level on the campus of Miles College, located at 5500 Myron Massey Boulevard, Fairfield, AL, 35064.
The theme, “Silver Rights + Green Power = The American Dream,” reflects other civil rights organizations’ national focus on economic empowerment as the next stage of the Civil Rights Movement, says Birmingham NAACP President Hezekiah Jackson, IV. “The Summit is designed to initiate a dialogue to complete the unfulfilled Dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for economic advancement for people of color,” he said.
