The Jefferson County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will present “Free Angela and All Political Prisoners” on Thursday, June 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the Carmike Patton Creek (formally the Rave) in Hoover.
“Free Angela” is a documentary that chronicles the life of young college professor Angela Davis, a Birmingham native whose social activism implicates her in a botched kidnapping attempt.
Nearly forty years later, and for the first time, Angela Davis speaks frankly about the actions that branded her as a terrorist and simultaneously spurred a worldwide political movement for her freedom.
The Jefferson County Delta Sigma Theta Sorority chapter is working with Tugg.com to host the documentary’s screening. Join the movement by purchasing your tickets in advance at www.dstjcac.org for $13. Tickets will be available for purchase starting May 24, 2013.
For more information about this viewing, please contact LaToya Bishop at 205.516.8645.
Prof. Davis spoke earlier this year at a special women’s history celebration of the Metro Birmingham Branch of the NAACP. She is expected to return to Birmingham later this year as part of the city’s 50th anniversary commemoration of the 1963 Birmingham Civil Rights Movement.
