Dear Visitor,
C-Series Lunch & Learn Set for Saturday
The C-Series "Lunch & Learn" is set for Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014.
The next program in the series is set for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 16th Street Baptist Church downtown, 1530 6th Avenue North, 35203.
Transformation Birmingham seeks to pick up the Movement from the point where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., left off – an economic agenda for all Americans. In his last speech, Dr. King directed African Americans to identify their assets, pool their resources and strengthen their institutions to generate wealth and build a greater economic base within their community.
Fifty years later, strategies to solve daunting problems related to racism, poverty, chronic under-employment, cradle-to-prison- pipeline, unstable families, crime, and juvenile delinquency, neighborhood deterioration, and under-performing schools continue to hamper the long-term economic growth for many Americans. However, as compared to the general population, these problems disproportionately impact African Americans more often than other ethnic minorities.

Real Life Poets Raise Funds for "S.P.I.T." Project
The intention of S.P.I.T. lies in the words, "Speak Poet, Initiate Truth". S.P.I.T. co-developers, Marina Gregory and Lillis Taylor, envision a revolutionary movement led by young people. This generation of young people has the potential to initiate change through the truth of their own poetry.
The S.P.I.T. project seeks to strengthen and grow the performative process among young poets. Through training workshops conducted by S.P.I.T. mentors, these young poets will then become leaders of workshops around the world, bringing the same process to their peers.
Funds for the first phase are being raised through Kickstarter in order to introduce the project as a whole to the various communities that would encourage such a project. Funds will facilitate S.P.I.T.'s first phase, which brings S.P.I.T. co-developer, actress and director, Marina Gregory, to Birmingham, AL to work with the Real Life Poets, Inc., core of youth poets. Ms. Gregory will lead a 5-day workshop with the intention of connecting movement, voice, song, rhythm and stance to performance of the spoken word.
To donate to the project, visit the Kickstarter website.
