Dear Visitor,
Please pass this notice along to family and friends who are contemplating or in the midst of making repairs to their homes.
Scammers are out in force, and homeowners need to know how to choose a reputable contractor to do repair work.
Phae Howard, executive director of The National Center for the Prevention of Home Improvement Fraud (NCPHIF) started the organization after the pain her own grandmother went through when home repair scammers took her money and left the work undone.
“When we counsel people who’ve already been victimized by scamming contractors, nearly every time we find that, if they had just gotten the right information earlier, they could have avoided losing their money,” Howard said.
The NCPHIF is currently working out of Birmingham's City Hall in the Mayor's Office, ready to assist all homeowners, particularly those who are rebuilding after last year's deadly tornadoes and this year's damaging storms.
Tthe NCPHIF’s Fraud Prevention Resource Center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
